WELCOME TO THE SOFT LAUNCH OF CONSERVATIVE CONGRESS
How This Project Began
In the late summer months of 2009 I began to notice a startling trend. A great number of representatives in Congress who by their own voice claimed to be conservative, did not seem to carry out actions that matched their claimed ideologies. Those representing us in Congress as “conservatives” had become loose spenders of our money, had become curious about health care policy, did not seem to take energy solutions, out of control taxation, or personal responsibility as seriously as they had once claimed. When this occurs, it is time for American conservatives to pay close attention to those who represent them. And if they no longer espouse the values that they once claimed to uphold, their time in Washington, D.C. should come to a close.
During this course of time I was introduced to J. Austin Russell, who held similar concerns. I expressed my interest of pursuing a website that would take on the daunting task of evaluating every candidate in America who claimed to hold the traditional conservative values that we held to determine if these candidates could truly call themselves conservatives. In the months to follow we gathered several like-minded individuals, RJ Caster, Will ElLaissi, and Dustin Siggins to help develop, research, and produce our project.
The results are what you see before you: A website designed to be simple in form that allows a user to check their states district and see candidates that we have approved based on the goals of our Issues Statement. It provides commentary on campaigns and elections via Twitter and RSS feeds from some of the most respected sites and blogs on the net, and provides open Forums for debate on our Issues Statement and candidate evaluations.
By checking your state via the States page or through the front page map, you will see only the candidates in your area who agree with every position from our Issues Statement. However, we have made great strides to attempt to evaluate every candidate from every district in the country. For full transparencies sake, we have listed all candidate evaluations on our Research page. On the Research page, you can find every candidate in your district, and discover on what issue they may have failed to meet our criteria so that you may investigate that candidate further. Bear in mind that some candidates have not responded to our questions, and it is entirely possible that a candidate is not promoted on our States page because of this, and not because they failed to meet our criteria. Candidates who have not been evaluated, or care to be re-evaluated because of missing information are free to submit a re-evaluation form.
What We Are Trying To Accomplish
Our goal in this project is very simple. If you agree with our Issues Statement, then the candidates we have approved are candidates we suggest you pay close attention to in your states upcoming primaries. We believe these candidates will best represent a conservative ideology that is inline with our Issues Statement.
What We Are NOT Trying To Accomplish
We want to make it very clear that we are not trying to promote any one candidate over another outside of the ideology of our Issues Statement. In other words, if more than one candidate in your district agrees with our positions, and you additionally agree with our position, it is then up to you to determine who you will pull the lever for.
Additionally, we most likely do not live in your state, read your newspapers or watch your local news. We can’t make determinations about character, moral values, or have hindsight into the entirety of a candidate’s past. These are things that you must research in order to be an educated voter. It is also possible that information we have on a candidate is incorrect. If you think that’s the case, we ask that you submit a Candidate Evaluation form and tell us why we are wrong.
We are not encouraging you not to vote. If your district does not have a candidate we’ve approved, we are not suggesting that you fail to show up to the polls on primary elections day. Movements take time, and bringing true conservatives back to Washington will also inevitably take time. If your district does not have a candidate that meets all our requirements on our Issues Statement, check out the research on your district’s candidates on our Research page. See where he or she failed, and make a determination to vote based on the values that are most important to you. But please, go vote.
Thanks For Stopping By
Thank you for checking out our site. We hope you enjoy it, we hope you get something out of our research, and we hope you return over and over again to visit our Forums for hearty debate. And if you’re getting something out of it, we hope that you’ll drop us a small donation. No one involved in this project was paid. It was all done in our spare time working in our off hours and sacrificing weekends. It was without a doubt done for our country and to see traditional conservative values return to Washington, D.C., but eating is also important.
Yours in Conservatism,
Nick R. Brown
